Patrick Norton our president led the pledge of allegiance
Our guest speakers were two members from the marine corps league gave a talk on flag etiquette.
Ways to fold and treat the American flag. It should be folded 13 times from left to right. The stars should appear on the triangle shape. They presented us with a forever wave certificate and book with lots of flag facts. A motion was made by Turner Langdon and seconded by Patricia Mencio to pay for the cost of materials for a case for a special flag that flew overseas. A vote was taken and the motion carried.
The treasurer’s report was given by Jean Guisto. Our expenses and income for the year were discussed.
As far as the grant money held by WDC, there is $1,528.23 to spend by September 30th.
A motion was made to purchase additional plantings and
doggie bags with the excess funds. Mr. Lombardo from the park department will
be consulted as to what to plant and where to plant.
Mike Guisto made a motion to spend the funds remaining for plantings and dog bags.
Ned seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion carried.
The secretary’s report was given by Nancy Ptak . Sympathy cards were given to Rev. Naji Kiwan from Our Lady of Lebanon Church on the death of his mother. Family of Joseph Margiotta from 112 Rockledge Drive and Mr. and Mrs. Keaveney for the death of his mother.

Signup sheets were passed for anyone interested in volunteering for the Waterbury Fall Festival to be held on October 24th, 2009 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on the Waterbury Green. It was decided to give away fresh apples at our table. Mike Guisto made a motion we spend money for apples to be distributed at our table. Tim seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion carried.
Signup sheets were also passed for anyone interested in being on the nomination committee. New president and secretary offices will be open for reelection. The park renovation update was given by Mike Ptak. The kiddie play area, bleachers and spray pool surface will be completed by next year.
Joe Padua gave his report . There was graffiti at the park
on the old sign. We took photos and gave a statement. A warrant was given to
the culprit a 28 year old male. A car was stolen at Wendell Cross School that
was later abandoned. Peach Orchard Road had some suspicious activity. Blight
problems on Purdy Road. On Tanglewood Road the city mowed the lawn. It has
been found that most break-ins occur from 10:00 to 11:00 am and 1:00 to 3:00
pm.
On October 20ts 2009 there will be a meeting at 60 North Main Street about reconstruction of roads in Waterbury. Ned updated us on the recognition dinner to be held on October 21, 2009 at 6:30 pm . Mike Ptak is in charge of the tickets. Bill Klish will get the plaques for our three nominees: Bill Burnes, Joe Padua, and Jan Perigard. Tony will do programs and posters. Claudette will do bios. The caterer is AOH and Maureen is in charge of decorations. The tickets are $15.00 for adults and $ 5.00 for children under 10. Deadline for tickets is October 16th, 2009. There will NOT be tickets sold at the door. Ned commented we do need people to clean up after the event.
Ned volunteered to send out a letter to those people to those people who purchased bricks but have not yet been completed. There are over 29 bricks not done.
Bob Perigard brought a sample of the letters for the dam. Instead of stones, we would paint larger flat stones for the letters. The cost would be approximately $720.00 including the paint. Jean Guisto made a motion we purchase them and Larry seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion carried.
Tony wanted to give a shout out to all of the lickers and stickers for successfully completing the mailing for our newsletter and our date magnet. Thanks go out to Nancy and Mike Ptak, Jan and Bob Perigard, Ned and Patricia Mencio, Jean Guisto, Patrick Norton, and Tony .
