Wendell Cross School is having a pancake breakfast on December 11, the proceeds of which will go to the EMNA. The purpose of this project is to involve the school children in community projects. The breakfast will be at Wendell Cross School from 9AM to 11 AM. The tickets prices will be $5 for adults, $3 for children over 5years old.
The EMNA Thanksgiving project will be to provide food baskets to 2 families. Some food donations have been made. We will be accepting donations and delivering the baskets on the Monday before Thanksgiving.
The Christmas tree lighting will take place on Sunday, December 5th at 5: 30 PM. We'll be providing cookies and the Golf Club concession will provide hot chocolate. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be present. Everyone is welcome.
The second Ziti dinner is planned for March 31st.
The flags have all been taken down. 22 old flags are no longer usable. All the new flags have survived! The Mohawk Neighborhood has hung 23 flags and may leave them up. There are now plans by the Town Plot neighbors and the downtown people to hang flags.
We are avidly seeking any historical information about East Mountain. There was brief discussion of who originally owned the land and about the documented family cemetery adjacent to the parking lot of the church.
Contributors to the Newsletter are needed.
A new project is being planned-a United States map stencil will be drawn in the schoolyard. Mr. Joseph Amato, the Wendell Cross School Principal has the stencil for the map. Nancy Ptak will head the project. Members are needed to help.
The Treasurer's report was provided by Turner Langdon. A copy is presented for review. $2,115.85 is currently available.
Attorney Thomas Brunnock is the evening's guest speaker. Attorney Brunnock offered
enlightening information about legal issues. He spoke about kinship funding
for neglected and abused families, persons other than parents raising families,
providing help around the holidays. He informed that people that earn 18,000
dollars per year cannot have food stamps.
Tom, spoke about conservators and that there are two types of conservator: voluntary
( approved by probate and report back annually) and involuntary conservator
( help with medical decisions, manage assets ( have to file inventory yearly
and are given budget for money given on a monthly basis)
.
The POA is free to choose their own attorney and obtain legal advice from that
lawyer.
Tom stated that actually only 4% of the population will be in extended care
facilities. He assured that there is no urgent need to transfer assets. Lawyers
can advise about property transfers and it is advisable to seek help before
any transfers are made. Ultimately a person's assets can be used to take care
of that person.
Tom also spoke about obtaining prepaid burial accounts, estate planning, living trusts.
The next part of the meeting included the following:
The store window that was designed by Burt Carpentier is now completed. It is located on Bank St. in the store front abutting the Webster Bank. It depicts in photos many of our projects, including the by-laws, awards, etc.
Jean Guisto reported an attempted break-in at her home last week on Friday at 9AM. The attempt did not succeed.
Welcome cards and applications have been sent to several new neighbors. Please continue to apprise us of any new neighbors, illness, deaths, etc.
Don't forget the future Seven Angels theater group attendance. Please feel free to sign up, the list is open-ended.
The pot luck dinner is scheduled for the December meeting. Please come on December
15th and bring your favorite dish ( finger foods, etc.)
Bob Perigard raised the subject of fencing for the hopefully, soon to be renovated
park. He stated that the length of fencing needed is 600 feet. The feeling is
mutual among all members who have seen the new Bunker Hill Park fence that that
type of fence would be ideal, but is expensive. Suggestions of trying to get
more money were raised, to include fund raising, etc. He suggested to take the
money allowed for the fence and add to it on our own. Discussions will continue
at future meetings.
Mike Ptak mentioned a possible future golf tournament.
Bob Trotter won the 50/50 raffle.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Patricia Mencio, Secretary
