EAST MOUNTAIN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

MINUTES

NOVEMBER 14, 2018

 

Attendees:  34

Meeting was called to order at 7:07 pm which began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mike Ptak and followed by a Moment of Silence for our departed neighbors.

 

Community Relations Officer Charles Carangelo reported:

·         An abandoned car was found on Peach Orchard Rd.

·         Speed monitors were installed on Rock Ledge Rd. and Peach Orchard Rd.

·         74 Peach Orchard Rd. was issued a Notice of Blight.

·         A resident mentioned that the storm drain at the bottom of East Mountain Rd. and Pearl Lake Rd. was not draining and starting to ice up.

·         He encouraged residents to call or text his personal cell #: 203-525-8797 with any issues or problems.

 

Secretary Dory St. John reported:

·         The minutes for the October meeting are posted on the EMNA website.  A brief summary of the October minutes was read.

·         Minutes for today’s meeting will be posted on the EMNA website.

·         There was no correspondence to report.

·         Two new families have moved into the East Mountain neighborhood:  One on Peach Orchard Rd. and one on East Mountain Rd.

Motion to accept Secretary’s report:  Mike Ptak, 2nd Larry Davino.  Motion carries.

 

Treasurer Colin Coburn reported:

·         Current report for October 1 through October 31 was presented at the meeting and will be on file.  If anyone would like any further information regarding the Treasurer’s Report please contact him.

Motion to accept Treasurer’s report:  Cero France, 2nd Donna Burns.  Motion carries.

 

City Liaison Officer Mike Ptak had nothing to report at this time.

Neighborhood Watch Commander Bob McGovern had nothing to report at this time.

Community Property Project Hon. Tom Brunnock was not in attendance.

 

Old Business:

·         Flags have been removed.  Thank you for all of the volunteers who helped with this.

·         Some of the flags will have to be replaced at $13 each.  Also some of the poles will also have to be replaced.

 

 

 

New Business:

·         It was discussed that EMNA become a member of the Waterbury Neighborhood Council.  This would enable its membership to have more voices for causes.

·         They meet once a month at their new office on Bank St.  This office is being rented at a low cost with block grants.  There are no expenses for the Neighborhood Associations.

·         There are approximately 18 neighborhood associations that are currently members.

·         EMNA would not incur any expenses to become a member and would still be independent of WNC.

Motion in favor of becoming a member of WNC:  Colin Coburn, 2nd Barbara Stere.  Motion carries.

·         Larry Davino purchased 18 strings of new lights for the East Mountain Christmas Tree.  There are 200 LED lights per string.  They come with a 3 year warranty.  Total purchase came to $301.15. These lights will be installed on November 24.  We are in need of volunteers to help with the installation.

·         The lighting ceremony will be on December 2.  Santa will be present.  Bring baked goods if possible.

·         The EMNA will have a Christmas Pot Luck Social on December 19 after a short meeting.  Please bring your favorite dish.

·         Volunteers are needed beginning in January for the Hospitality Committee.   

 

State Representative Stephanie Cummings reported:

·         The new Legislative Session will begin on January 9th.  Bills being presented: Manufacturing Tax Credit Bill

             No pensions or lifetime health insurance for legislators

             Increase in minimum wage

             Paid family leave

             Legalization of marijuana

             Tolls on our highways

·         She and Alderman George Noujaim will be sponsoring a Coat Drive for Waterbury school children at Bob’s Stores on Wolcott St. November 16 through December 31.

·         She is also sponsoring a Veteran’s Drive in December.

 

Alderman George Noujaim reported:

·         Lockers at Municipal Stadium were approved and construction has begun.

·         District 4 meeting will be Tuesday, November 20 from 6-7 pm at East Mountain Golf Course.

·         The Lebanese Major for a Day will be Deacon George Hajaar.  He will be honored at City Hall on Friday, November 30 at 10 am.

·         The PAL luncheon will be this Saturday, November 17 from 12-4 pm at PAL.

Motion to adjourn:  Barbara Stere, 2nd Larry Davino.  Motion carries.  Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
