Meeting Minutes
Attendees: 50
Mass in celebration of Fire
Dept. Capt. John Keane: Father Charbel
Seeman, Pastor of Our Lady of Lebanon Church officiated at the Mass, during
which a memorial stone for John was dedicated.
The presentation of the Gifts was offered by members of Engine 5 Fire
Station.
The
regular meeting was called to order at 6:05 PM to allow time for ceremonies and
to be followed by the June “barbecue”. President Mike Ptak led the group in the
Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary’s
Report: As per usual, the hard copy of
the minutes of the May meeting are available for perusal.
Treasurer’s
Report: Total balance is $7,304.09 with
$3,674.37 remaining for the condo development opposition.
Community
Officer, Joe Padua reports theft of the ATM machine at the bank on Reidville
Drive. Radar traps are being set up at
East Main St./Beecher Ave. Joe asks
anyone who might see anything suspicious to call him at the Community Phone #
574 6962.
Fire
Dept. Report: There have been 6 runs to
East Mountain since the last meeting, as reported by Capt. Mike Farrell. He also tells of a woman who brought her
unconscious dog to the fire station, the dog having been unresponsive for 20
minutes. Efforts to revive the 4 year
old dog were unsuccessful. Mike would
like to follow up with the woman if anyone knows who she is.
The
Scholarship award was presented this year to Brittany Langdon, a high school
senior who has just graduated and will be attending college. As in previous years Beverly Guevin
presented the award in her father Harry Northrup’s memory.
Presentation to Engine 5: Mike Ptak presented a hand made model Engine 5 Fire Engine to the Engine 5 firefighters. Mike Farrell accepted the award, which was placed on a plaque (the plaque was donated by B&G Sports of East Main St. ) During his acceptance, Mike voiced his appreciation of the close relationship the Engine 5 staff maintains with the East Mountain Neighborhood Association.
Mike
praised John Keane for his attendance along with his young son at the April
meeting, especially for teaching the boy to be civic-minded and for the boy to
have such an interest in these matters at such a young age.
Condo
update: The last hearing lasted 5
hours, during which the special permit was, again, tabled. The next hearing will be held on June 28th
at the Sovreign Bank at 5:30 PM.
Park
Update the Park still goes
uncompleted. Our project is to install
a bench with donations in John Keane’s memory.
The promised $25,000 is still a reality—the paper work will go to the
state after the Development Committee has its board meeting.
A
fundraiser is planned for June 30 at the golf course. The ticket price is $20.
It will be held from 6PM to 9PM.
It will be catered by the clubhouse concession manager, Terri
Robillard. After expenses, all proceeds
will go to the Keane family.
A
golf tournament is planned for October 5th . This will be another event for the Keane
family. Tickets will cost $125. For non-golfers, dinner can be purchased for
$40. This will be held at the golf
course.
Commemorative
bricks to be placed at the park are still available. Please make purchase within next 2 months, so the company can be
given a definite number.
Thanks
to the O’Donnell Monument Co. owners Patrick and Ann O”Donnell for donating the
memorial stone for John Keane.
Mike
Ptak is nominated by Bob Perigard to be honored by the Neighborhood Council
this year. Nancy Ptak seconded the motion.
Mike intends to step down as President of the Neighborhood Association
in December. A nominating Committee is
needed to choose officer nominees.
Mike
thanked Oliver’s Market for their donation toward tonight’s barbecue.
Mike
has been congratulated by the State of Ct. for his work on the Litter
Comission.
A
pancake breakfast is being planned for September. There willl be meetings during the summer break. Mike Farrell and Bob Stokes have offered to
help with the event.
The
meeting is adjourned at 7PM.

barbecue followed.
