Mike announced that the East Mountain Neighborhood sign was put in place today at the foot of the mountain on the little island adjacent to the Valero gas station and convenience store.  The sign was made by Dave Watterworth, who also donated the letters for the sign, which will be used to announce our activities and meetings.  We thank Mr. Watterworth for the beautiful sign.

The problem of watering the flower flag has been solved!!!  A pump has been purchased for $349 plus supplies needed for the operation of the pump, the cost in all, approximately $375. The pump weighs only 13 lbs. and can be attached to hose at the top of the dam.  All the apparatus is stored and transported in a crate, made by Perigard.  Bill Burnes is another brain behind the project. Ned Mencio also contributed to the effort.  Ned said that watering is now so easy that the” waterer” can bring a lawn chair and a beer and sit back and enjoy.  Thanks to all who helped with the flower flag planting and the pump project.  Response to the request for help was excellent.  The gardeners included: Bill Burnes, Bill Hubbell, Bob Perigard, Larry Davino, Turner Langdon, Harold and Gail Andrew, Maureen Mead, Carol Amedeo, Claudette La Flamme, Mike Ptak, John Keane and his children ( thank you ), Daniel and Michael Mencio, Ned and Pam Mencio, Bob McGovern, Nancy Ptak.

Community Officer, Joe Padua received a request for speed limit sign and children playing sign on Rockledge Drive.

Bill Burnes, Bob Perigard, Ned Mencio and Mike Ptak  removed shrubs at the Church  this week.

Mike Farrell from Engine 5 thanked Mike Ptak, who started the promotion of the “File for Life”.  He told that because of Mike the “File” has become very popular.  Mike also mentioned the recent fatality fires, which occurred because of defective smoke detectors.  Mike said if someone needs one they can be obtained at the fire station.

The suggestion for a flag pole on the reservoir dam has been negated by the water dept.

Mike Ptak reports that Jim Nemec has stated that the park renovation project is moving very slowly.

Mike brought up the idea of electing new officers this year and suggests that members consider this.

Claudette LaFlamme, chair of the Scholarship Committee introduced the 2005 recipient of the $500 scholarship.  She stated that each year  the EMNA presents the scholarship in honor of the late Harry Northrup, who did so much for the neighborhood as one of the original members of the Community Club and the founder of the East Mountain Athletic Association.  Harry’s daughter, Beverly Guevin  and his granddaughter, Leslie welcomed Joseph Stublic, who has been accepted to Porter and Chester College.  The young man has earned all-city and NVL titles.  Joseph gave a brief presentation of his achievements, which are many, including: Cross Country, track, Latin Club president, National Honor Society and many awards.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25PM and a barbecue followed in honor of our scholarship recipient and the end of the year and the start of summer break

Respectfully submitted
