Meeting Minutes

President Patrick Norton called the meeting to order, at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
No report was given because Secretary Nancy Ptak was absent – on vacation.
Treasures Report:
Income of $.18 – Refund of bank service charges.
Expenses total $1,622.26
Checkbook balance $5,778.73 less reserved funds of $500.00 for Scholarship Fund.
Available Balance $5,278.73
Community Officer’s Report:
Joe Padua reported there has been a rash of stolen Honda vehicles. A tow truck was involved. Also vehicles that have been left running have been stolen.
There were break in on East Main Street – Mattatuck News & M J Barlow.
A local car dealer has been parking stolen cars in store lots and putting for sales signs on them.
Radar will be on East Main Street & Pierpont Road.
Fire Department Update
& Report:
No report this month.
Upcoming Casino Field Trip:
Nazih Noujaim reported that a casino bus trip will be scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2007. The cost will be $30.00 and the casino will be giving everyone a $10.00 food coupon & $20.00 for something else, such as Keno. The bus holds 55 and he will need 22 ticket purchased to break even.
The bus will leave the church parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and will return by 5:00 p.m. Cars can be parked in the church parking lot.
A motion was made by Tony & Bob second, a vote was taken and approved to issue a check for $360.00 for the deposit to the bus company. Call Nazih @ 753-2807 if interested.
Park Update:
Pat spoke to Jim Nemec from the Park Department. He hopes to get the Park Commissioners approval to run electricity to the Christmas tree as well as update the sign.
Condo Update:
Attorney Zailckas could not attend the hearing in chambers. The next meeting is scheduled for February 25 and he plans to attend. Pat hopes to have an update for next months meeting.
There has been approval for 24 new homes on Purdy Road.
June Award Dinner Planning:
Ned reported that a group meet to discuss a dinner to recognize our volunteers. The hope is to have the dinner in conjunction with the June scholarship presentation. There will be a limited menu at a cost of approximately $9.00 – $12.00. Patrick will serve as the master of ceremonies. The committee is looking for volunteers to be on the committee and assist that evening. Call Ned @ 756-1952.
New Business:
There will be a meeting on February 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomaston Savings Bank on Watertown Avenue to discuss the opposition to First Light.
Nazih announced the annual fundraiser dinner dance for Our Lady of Lebanon will be April 5, 2008. He asked if EMNA would once again purchase an advertisement in the ad book. Tony made a motion and Ned seconded it. We will purchase an ad in the amount of $200.00. A vote was taken and was approved.
Pat announced that he is hopping to have an F.B.I. agent speak at the March meeting. The agent will discuss Internet fraud and sex offences.
If anyone has any other suggestions for speakers please let him know.
Pat would like to change the monthly agenda to allow presentations/speakers before our normal business.
Michaels will plant and store the flowers that will be needed to purchase for the flower flag. Pam suggested that the flowers not be planted until the beginning of June because of the problems that came up the last couple of years.
