Meeting was called to order at 7pm. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Stephanie Cummings followed by a moment of Silence for our deceased neighbors.

 

Community Officer’s Report:

Dawn Spellman was not able to attend. Robberies in East End and Valero. Suspects caught.

 

Guest Speaker:

State Representative Selim Noujaim was the speaker. CoCo Key hosting Sandy Hook kids on Feb. 21. Discussions included gun control bills and the budget. Gov. Malloy wants to discontinue car taxes that the cities collect. Waterbury could lose up to 30 million dollars. Increases on state college fees for in-state students.

Attorney Stephanie Cummings discussed Rt. 84 construction. DOT will present information on the next phase of work on April 18th at Crosby High School.

 

Secretary’s Report:

Thank you note received by former community officer Joe Padua along with a donation to EMNA. Minutes of January meeting were read along with an addendum to the minutes from January 20th meeting was read. Guest speaker was Lauralee Cheezie from WPD Crimestoppers. Purpose of Crimestoppers is to alert police of possible crimes. Motion to accept minutes made by Larry Davino and seconded by Joe Kearney.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Beginning Balance:         $4762.12

Ending Balance:              $4662.12    

Less Grant Allocation:   ($750.00)

Available Cash on Hand:$3912.12

Motion to accept Treasurer’s Report made by Jan Perigard and seconded by Donna Burnes.

 

Committee Reports:

City Liason Officer- Mile Ptak has heard nothing from Mark Pronovost about park money.

The Gathering, a city sponsored event will be held on May 18th. This event is to celebrate the diversity of Waterbury. Parade of ethnic groups followed by events and food at Library Park.

Grant Committee:

Mailings to schools went out.

 

Old Business:

Wendell Cross Principal Joe Amato is all for the project of cleaning up the bank leading up to the stairs and school. He will see if PTA members will volunteer. This will take place in spring or summer.

 

Big Green Truck:

Our dinner will be held on Wednesday, June 19th at 5:30. The truck will arrive at 6pm. 7-9pm pizza and salad will be served. 9-10pm gelato will be served along with coffee and expresso. Soft drinks will be provided. Tickets will be available at our April meeting. Jan Perigard is in charge of tickets. Our goal is to sell exactly 100 tickets. Tickets will cost $15.00 for members and $20.00 for non-members. Must be 18 or older to attend. A final count is needed by June 10th.

 

New Business:

Looking for suggestions for speakers for next years meetings. Speak to Bob Perigard.

Upcoming Events- Waterbury 10 year plan( to eliminate homelessness in next 10 years)

Earth Day- April 27th

 

Motion made by Nancy Ptak for $100.00 donation to PAL. Seconded by Jean Guisto.

 

Next Meeting:  Wednesday, March 20th. Mayor Neil O’Leary will be the speaker.
