EAST MOUNTAIN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

MINUTES

February 19, 2020

 

 

Attendees:  30

Meeting was called to order at 7:11 pm which began with the Pledge of Allegiance and followed by a moment of Silence for our departed neighbors.

 

Community Officer Charles Carangelo reported:

·         Cars have been left running and have been stolen.  One was recently stolen on Purdy Rd.

·         Other problems have been reported such as shots being fired.

·         Community staff cleaned up several areas.

 

Guest speaker John Luddy spoke on Reverse Mortgages.  Requirements are that you must be 62 years of age and own your own home.  You borrow on the equity of your home.  You can use this money any way you wish.  It is re-paid when you die by your Executor.  Loans are insured by FHA.  You can change terms of payment after you make the loan.  There are fees:  FHA mortgage payment, etc.

 

State Representative Stephanie Cummings reported:

·         Tolls are dead for now.  Need many road improvements and the priority is the MixMaster in Waterbury. 

·         Governor wants traffic light timing changed.

·         Removal of religious option to refrain from vaccinations are being discussed.

·         Hiring opportunities in business is being discussed.

·         Vaping is being discussed.

·         Free higher education is being discussed.

·         Legalizing recreational marijuana is being discussed.

 

District Alderman George Noujaim reported:

·         It is being discussed how to repair or replace city pools.

·         It is being discussed whether there is a need for a traffic light at East Mountain Road and Route 69.

·         He will have someone come to an East Mountain Neighborhood Association meeting to report on the Wendell Cross building project.

 

Secretary Dory St. John was absent.  Minutes were recorded by Gail Andrew.

 

 

 

 

Treasurer Colin Coburn reported:

·         Current report for January 1st through the 31st was presented at the meeting and will be on file.  If any would like additional information regarding the Treasurer’s Report please contact him.

·         Motion to place the Treasurer’s Report on file.  All in favor.  Motion carries.

 

Old Business:

·         Need volunteers to take down the Christmas tree lights.

·         Need volunteer for the Vice President position.

·         Need volunteer for the EMNA Scrap Book.

·         Need volunteers for the nominating committee for President, Vice President and Secretary.

 

Former Mayor Mike Jarjura spoke about Julia Ashe and the possibility of planning a scholarship.

 

New Business:  None

 

Motion to adjourn:  Ciro Franco, 2nd Larry Davino.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:11 pm
