Meeting Minutes
Attendees: 35
The Meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by President Michael Ptak, with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mike thanked all those in attendance.
The Christmas tree lighting: was highlighted by Santa Claus, who read “ ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the children. Each child had his/her picture taken with Santa. Those pictures are on display and available to all this evening. Food and toys were collected that evening and were later distributed to the Marine Corps. Toys for Tots and to St. John’s Church. Hot chocolate was provided by the golf course concession and refreshments supplied by the members and other neighbors. Santa also gave popcorn balls and candy canes to each child.
Condo Development: There will be a Public Hearing on January 16th and a Zoning hearing on January 24th to which all are urged to attend. These hearings are pertinent to the proposed moratorium on condo development in the city.
The Tanglewood Estates, consisting or 22-24 homes to be built in the Purdy Road area, has been turned down by state and city agreement that they cannot tie into city sewers. The developer is asking for a special exemption.
Fundraising: The commemorative bricks are available for perusal and for sale. The spaces for figures are 13, not 16 as previously stated.
Promised funding: David Aldorando maintains that we will get all of the funding promised to us for the park renovation. Some discussion concerning the park ensued, with mention that one of the two pond formations in the field area is not properly draining into the reservoir. A January meeting with the EMAA is considered to finalize plans and to determine when the start of completion of the renovations will be. Also discussed was ATV access protection, fencing, dog bags, etc.
Flags: 100 flags need to be replaced this year
Snow Removal: Question was raised about donating for the Gasparri workers, who do such efficient snow-removal work.
Treasurer’s report: Jean Guisto reports that there is a $5,467.63 balance, with $500 set for the scholarship and $2, 387.09 reserved for development opposition (condos) , leaving a real balance of $2,580.44.
Pancake breakfast: The success of the first pancake breakfast led to suggestion of having another—more discussion will follow at future meetings.
Newsletter: Tony Loechner thanked all who participated in getting the newsletter prepared and sent.
Signs: Engine 5 attendees raised the recent drownings in the East Mountain Reservoir. They suggest posting newer and more effective signs banning swimming there. Jean Guisto stated that the city has a new risk manager, who will be notified about the signs and warnings.
Suggestion to collaborate with the EMAA to secure a new sign for the East Mountain Park.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00PM. Refreshments followed with the Christmas Social gathering.
