Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to
order by President Michael Ptak, at 7:10 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance. Mike thanked all in attendance.
Report was given on the
Christmas tree lighting. The event was
held on December 2nd at 5:30 PM. Santa was escorted by the Engine 5
WFD. Santa read “’Twas the Night before
Christmas” to the children and refreshments were served. Thanks to the 19th Hole
proprietor Terri Robillard and staff, hot chocolate was served to all.
Representative Selim Noujaim
is the evening’s guest speaker, here to answer questions about state issues,
including what has happened to the money designated to renovate the park
promised by the state. Mr. Noujaim
explained that money is needed for other projects and the outcome depends upon
what is left. Nancy Ptak asked what we
can do about the park problem, about which we are continuously told to be
patient. He strongly recommended a
petition to be sent before February with clears names, addressed, etc. be sent
to legislators as well as emails sent to the proper addresses. Tim Connelly asked if the state speaker Jim
Aman might use the slush fund to pay for the park. Bob Perigard requests the legislators’ addresses. Barbara Stere asked about the money
allocated for repairs to the Montoe Park.
President- elect, Pat Norton asked when the money was first allocated. The response ----7 years ago. Barbara Stere also asked where the teams
play since there is no park here---the response ----other fields. Rep. Noujaim completed the question and
answer period and left to attend other meetings.
The Secretary’s report is
presented in hard copy for review.
The treasurer’s report: Treasurer Jean Guisto reports a good
response from the recent mailing.
$3,000 in dues has been realized so far with responses continuing. Ned
Mencio asked whether we will, again, gift the Gasparri workers for their
outstanding service to plow our roads. Ned made the motion to do so and it was
seconded by Donna Burnes. The motion
carried. A hard copy of the treasurer’s report is available for review.
Community Officer, Joe Padua
is not present this evening. An inquiry will be made to put chains up to
prevent ATV’s from running in the park.
Nazih Noujaim suggested April
as the time for a casino trip, which he suggested having at a previous
meeting. A list has been
generated, and to date 18 people have
expressed interest.
Bob Mc Govern mentioned that
during the surprise snowstorm of Dec. 7th, several neighbors were
stopping cars from negotiating the steep hills, especially Peach Orchard Rd.,
thus preventing accidents.
It has been suggested that
award certificates be presented to certain deserving people, namely Kevin Zaks
who has been cleaning up the Naugatuck River on his own, and to Terri Robillard
who is always willing to help the Association in any way she can, most recently
by furnishing the golf course clubhouse and the hot chocolate served during the
visit with Santa during the Christmas tree trimming.
Mike suggested inviting Kevin
Zaks to a future meeting to give a 20 min. presentation on his cleanup efforts.
Mike took time at this
juncture to thank everyone for their support during the years of his tenure as
president. He then passed to Pam Mencio
, outgoing secretary, who also thanked everyone, especially for the friendships
made because of the experience, and promised to continue working as always for
the association.
Bob Mc Govern asked whether
it’s time to repay those who loaned $500 each to the fund to fight the condo
project. Bob then made a motion to
repay the loans and Nazih seconded the motion and the motion carried after some
discussion from Bob Perigard.
A thank you card from the
Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries was read---the card was in thanks for
distributing the food and toys collected at the tree lighting.
The business portion of the
meeting was adjourned at 8PM and was followed by the annual pot-luck Christmas
Party.
Respectfully Submitted,
Patricia Mencio,
Secretary
