February 17, 2010 Meeting

 

Attendees: 27

 

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mike Ptak.

 

Tony D’Amelio and Joan Hartley held office hours from 5-7 before our meeting. Budget cuts for the state were discussed. Jobs were the biggest issue.

 

Guest Speaker Andrew Martelli from WDC-City Hall was unable to attend.

 

Secretary’s Report was given by Stacey Kearney.

New neighbors: Matthew Ensero and David Mariano of 11 Westport Dr.

Sympathy cards were sent to: Family of Joan Meskunas, 10 Skyline Dr., Family of Ernestine Houston of 43 Fleetwood Dr., Loretta Mastro of 31 Rockledge Dr. for the death of her mother Geneva Fusco.

Get well card to Bill Klish, 120 Pineridge Rd. Various accidents have happened to this family in the past several weeks.

 

Hospitality for the March 24th  meeting will be provided by Mike and Nancy Ptak.

 

Treasurers Report was given by Jean Guisto. Income was $615.20 while expenses were .06(bank fees). Total is $7752.57 less the $750.00 scholarship. Treasurers report was accepted by Larry and seconded by Mike.

 

Community Police Report was unavailable.

 

Ann Phelan from the Board of Alderman who attended the January meeting, looked into the ice problem on Rockledge Dr. The city reached a settlement with the home owner. The city will install a storm sewer in front of the owners home. The owner must maintain it, if he doesn’t he will be fined $100.00 a day. No information was available about the ice problem by Wendall Cross.

 

Casino Trip Update: Nezi wants to ask the East End Club to join us so we can fill a bus. He is looking at May 8th  as a new date. The cost will be $30.00 a person. The bus will leave at 9:30 am from St. Anthony’s Church in Prospect and return around 6:00 pm. Nezi is not positive but the group will  probably go to Moeghan Sun. A sign up sheet was sent around for those who are interested in going.

 

 

Earth Day will be on Saturday, May 1st at church parking lot for clean up.

 

The Waterbury Campership Fund donation was brought up. Nezi made a motion to donate $200.00. All agreed.

 

Mike Ptak will contact Jim Nemec about benches and garbage cans to be put at the park. We also need power and picnic benches in the gazebo.

 

New Business: Nancy Ptak would like to sell duck tickets again this year. Tickets are $5.00 , we will get $2.50 of that back. Nancy will be the chairperson of the event. Jean motioned to accept, Stacey seconded it. All agreed.

 

Turner has asked Kevin Jannetty to attend our March 24th meeting to discuss electric bill savings. Approximate savings for customers would be about $20.00 a month.

 

Mike brought up the subject of a developer building 20 new homes off Tanglewood Rd. The stone crusher is causing dust on the streets and houses. Mike Ptak will look into that.

 

We are looking to have Mayor Mike Jarjura attend our April meeting to discuss issues in the city.

 

Gift cards from Dunkin Donuts was suggested to give as gifts for the snow plow drivers in the amount of $10.00 each. Motion to accept by Tim Conley and seconded by Larry.

 

Larry noticed the new paint job and carpet that the church installed.

 

Old Business: Mike brought up movie night at the park. Looking to have this event in mid to late May. Movie has to be age appropriate for children.

 

Next meeting will be held on March 24th.
