SPECIAL CLEAN-UP OF WENDELL CROSS SCHOOL

PROPERTY BORDERING HAMILTON AVENUE

On Saturday, May 3, 2014, beginning at 8:30 AM the EMNA, in conjunction with Wendell Cross PTA, will be cleaning the area between Wendell Cross stairs and driveway located on Hamilton Avenue.  One lane of Hamilton Ave. will be closed from Peach Orchard Rd. to the school driveway.  This will allow volunteers to remove leaves, fallen branches, and do some trimming of damaged trees.  Also, years of accumulated sand curbside will be removed.  Effort will also be made to locate a city bus stop area opposite Dana Drive.  Volunteers are asked to park on school property and not on any surrounding streets to avoid traffic congestion.  Everyone should come with work gloves, rake, shovel, broom, etc. Rain date will be Saturday, May 10, 2014.

EARTH DAY

Help is needed for our annual clean-up of East Mt. on Saturday, April 26, 2014.  Volunteers should meet at 9:00 AM in the parking lot of Our Lady of Lebanon Church located at the corner of East Mountain Road and Prospect Road.  Mike Ptak and Bill Burnes will be co-ordinating this year’s project.  Gloves and trash bags will be provided by the City of Waterbury.  Hopefully you can give 2 to 3 hours time to help maintain our neighborhood’s appearance.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Anyone interested in joining the Neighborhood Watch Program can contact Dave Muccino at 203-757-5277.  We are fortunate to have a very safe and somewhat crime-free neighborhood and this program can only improve our quality of life in East Mountain.

SAFEGUARDING SENIORS AGAINST FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION

The Waterbury Police Dept. is pleased to announce a new crime prevention program, geared towards senior citizens and their adult relatives.  The SSAFE program has been designed to not only heighten your awareness of common scams, but also to arm you with strategies for dealing with the scammers themselves.  This 1 hour session will detail common scams (i.e., telemarketing scams, grandparent scams, lottery scams, contractor scams, and more) and is sure to open your eyes about the extent in which criminals go to defraud seniors of their assets.  On Wed., April 16, 2014, at 7:00 PM in Our Lady of Lebanon Church Hall, officers from the Community Relations Division of the Waterbury Police Department will present this program at the monthly meeting of the East Mt. Neighborhood Assn.  All East Mountain residents are encouraged to attend this very informative crime prevention program.
